Introduction of Fiber Optic Patch Panel Functions

Fiber distribution frame is an important transmission tool in fiber optic communication system, which plays an irreplaceable role in the connection and distribution of fiber optic signals. Especially in recent years, with the improvement of China's network and information level, the use of fiber distribution frames has become more extensive. Whether it is in villages, communities, floors, or wireless base stations, it cannot function properly without it. What are the functions and roles of this magical fiber distribution frame? This is the question we will focus on today.

Fiber optic patch panel function

The functions of fiber distribution frame include fiber fusion splicing, installation of fiber connectors, adjustment and connection of optical paths, storage of surplus pigtail fibers, and protection of optical cables. These functions enable convenient connection, distribution, and scheduling of fiber optic cables.

Fiber distribution frame plays an important role in the safe operation and flexible use of fiber optic communication networks.

The fiber optic patch panel function  includes:

Fixing function

This device introduces and fixes the optical cable on the frame, protecting the cable and fiber cores from damage. The metal part of the cable should be insulated from the metal frame, and the metal sheath and reinforcing core of the fixed cable should be reliably connected to the high-voltage protection grounding device. After the cable enters the frame, ground wire protection components are installed to protect the cable ends, and the optical fibers are grouped and protected.

Connector function

After the optical fibers led out from the cable are fusion spliced with the pigtails, the excess fibers are wound and stored, and the fusion spliced joints are protected. This device facilitates the operation, construction, installation, and maintenance of fiber core and pigtail connections. It can fix and protect the joint position in a flat and non-displaced manner, avoiding external forces and ensuring that the wound cable fibers and pigtails are not damaged.

Deployment function

It can connect the connectors on the pigtails to the adapters, and dock the optical paths with the optical connectors on the other side of the adapters. Adapters and connectors should be able to be flexibly inserted and removed; optical paths can be freely deployed and tested.

Storage function

Storage function provides storage for various cross-connect optical jumpers between racks, so that they can be placed in a regular and neat manner. The distribution frame should have appropriate space and methods to ensure clear routing of these optical jumpers, convenient adjustment, and meet the requirements of minimum bending radius. Each rack capacity and unit capacity (determined by the number of adapters) should be specified in the product enterprise standard, and fiber termination equipment, fiber storage equipment, and fiber connection distribution equipment should be configured as a complete set within the full capacity range. The rack and unit should have sufficient space for storing leftover fibers.
